GemWallet x NOWNodes: How a Better Solana Node Improved UX

In celebration of NOWNodes’ 6th anniversary, we sat down with Max Costa, Business Development Manager at Gem Wallet, to discuss the wallet’s mission, growth story, and how NOWNodes plays a critical role in powering its infrastructure.

About Gem Wallet

Gem Wallet is a non-custodial wallet allows users to retain complete control over their private keys, which are essential for managing assets on the blockchain. With this type of wallet, the private keys- and therefore the assets- remain solely in the user’s possession. In this interview, Max shared insights about how the wallet came to life, why decentralization and transparency are core to their product, and what makes their partnership with NOWNodes so impactful.

  • What inspired the creation of Gem Wallet, and what problem are you solving in Web3?

Gem Wallet was built to give the crypto community a truly open-source, secure, and user-friendly everyday wallet—a rare and challenging balance in the crypto space.
  • What makes Gem Wallet stand out from other crypto research and data platforms?

Gem Wallet is fully open-source and does not require any personal user data, ensuring both transparency and privacy.
  • What’s your current mission and vision for the project? Could you share some highlights from your roadmap?

As a young project, our priority is to implement all core features and support popular blockchains and platforms. We’re in the final stages of that effort and already support over 60 blockchains with staking, swaps, and fiat on-ramps/off-ramps. We’re simultaneously adding new assets.

    For 2025, our roadmap includes:
    • Enhancing our proprietary DEX swap aggregator so users get the best available swap prices
    • Integrating more blockchains into in-wallet swaps
    • Expanding staking options
    • Introducing hardware-wallet compatibility

About partnership between GemWallet and NOWNodes

  • How did your partnership with NOWNodes begin?

As a small team, we initially built our own blockchain infrastructure and partnered with various node providers. During the hype around the OFFICIAL TRUMP token launch, Solana became congested, and users faced swap failures on Jupiter. That’s when we discovered NOWNodes’ Solana broadcast support.
  • What attracted you to NOWNodes as an infrastructure partner?

NOWNodes supports over 110 blockchains, giving our users broad access to the Web3 world. With millions of tokens and hundreds of chains, wide coverage was essential.
  • Did you have any specific expectations or concerns at the start? And how did things play out over time?

We expected reliable support for the blockchains we needed—and that’s exactly what we received, with the quality we counted on.
  • When did you realize it made more sense to use external NOWNodes instead of running your own nodes?

Maintaining additional services ourselves would have stretched our small development team too thin. Plus, NOWNodes continuously updates and monitors all upcoming blockchain upgrades and hard forks, which greatly simplifies our work.
  • What were the most critical factors for you when choosing NOWNodes?

Support for our required blockchains—especially Solana, which we couldn’t find reliably elsewhere—and doing so at a reasonable cost.
  • What was the key trigger—API performance, uptime, or support for specific networks that others don’t offer?

Solana support was the decisive factor.
  • Which parts of Gem Wallet’s product or infrastructure rely most on NOWNodes? How important is this infrastructure to your platform’s reliability?

NOWNodes serves as both our primary and backup data provider, depending on the blockchain. Since we build an open-source wallet on the principles of decentralization—and to maximize uptime in a modern internet environment where entire IP subnets can be blocked by governments—we leverage multiple providers. Thanks to NOWNodes, our users always see their up-to-date balances, incoming and outgoing transactions, and can execute Solana swaps even during periods of network congestion. These data are mission-critical and must be delivered as fast as possible—and NOWNodes consistently excels at this.
  • What changed after you started using NOWNodes?

Users are now notified about new transactions 40 % faster, significantly enhancing their real-time wallet experience.
  • Were you able to solve key infrastructure challenges and improve your product with NOWNodes solutions?

Absolutely—more supported blockchains mean more satisfied users. Data retrieval speed also rose by over 30 % on average.
  • Can you share any metrics or growth indicators since the beginning of the partnership—like user growth, request volume, or development speed?

    • Transaction and balance updates are now 30–50 % faster.

    • The Solana transaction success rate rose to 99 %.
  • What do you find especially useful or convenient about our service?

The NOWNodes team stays ahead of all upcoming events, updates, and hard forks. We can trust that essential blockchain support will be in place right when it’s needed.
